At Catholic University's opening Mass, archbishop encourages students to be proud of their faith

Archbishop Donald Wuerl, Catholic University's chancellor, incenses a crucifix during the Mass of the Holy Spirit, which he concelebrated with 90 priests from the university.
Good attendance, a new school president, and TV cameras filming a live Mass broadcast, marked Catholic University of America's Mass of the Holy Spirit on Sept. 2. The annual Mass held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception begins each new school year for Catholic University. At the Mass, five Eternal Word Television Network cameras captured the gathering for the first time. Archbishop Donald Wuerl, CUA's chancellor and the main celebrant of the Mass, greeted the university's new president, John Garvey, and the gathered students, saying how pleased he was to see the "large, large number" in attendance at the liturgy, which he called "a statement of our unique academic identity."

About 45 high school-aged young men recently participated in the Archdiocese of Washington's second "Quo Vadis Day" camp to learn more about discerning their life's vocation, whether to the priesthood or another calling. "This is a camp centered on teaching young men how to discern their vocation," said Father Robert Walsh, the archdiocesan assistant director of priest vocations and chaplain at the University of Maryland. "It is not priest recruitment, although we do discuss the call to priesthood as well as to religious life and married life."

It was the second time he shook hands with President Barack Obama. He has also conversed with Archbishop Donald Wuerl, and has met actors from the popular TV show, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody while working on a Hollywood television set next to theirs.
